An international conference of ECAD will be in Jurmala
A lot of participants from the three Baltic States, Russian Federation, Sweden and the Ukraine are invited to take part in this conference. A pleasant surprise for the organizers was the message from Ghana: four social workers from the African country expressed to participate in the conference. The language of the proceedings will be English, translation to Russian also will be provided.
The official title of the conference is “Designing a Better World”. The main theme will be discussing how to solve social and practical issues for those who decided to stop with using drugs and once for all left drugs and criminality behind.
But importantly, ECAD tries to focus on prophylaxis not on the liquidation of effects. This is primarily educational work, monitoring in schools, social assistance - especially in the risk families, active collaboration with civil society (nongovernmental) organizations, etc.
Why Jurmala has been chosen for the conference venue?
Before the city officially became a member of ECAD (in 2007), we had established a very good contacts with the municipal police, and the social department of Jurmala City Council. Important role in "building bridges" played Head of ECAD Representation in Latvia, the law professor Andris Vilks.
Manager of ECAD Jorgen Sviden during his visit to Jurmala, has got acquainted with work experience of Jurmala Social department and had been satisfied with social workers great experience, which could be very interesting as well as for other ECAD members.
