JAUNDUBULTI

Part of Jurmala. District between Dubulti and Melluzhi. Includes the settlement of Pumpuri with a separate railway station. Building started in 1848. The planning of the place is strictly regular, being determined by three thoroughfares running parallel to the sea, crossed by a net of side-streets.

The Jaundubulti graveyard has become a place of rest to many noteworthy cultural workers, among them the ballet dancer J.Grauds (1904-1978), the actress of the Dailes Theatre A.Baldone(1898-1971), and the cinema producer A. Rusteikis.

Professor Ludis Berzinsh (1870-1965) lived from 1934 to 1944 in summers.

1904-1905 Rainis and Aspasia lived in a house built by themselves. They were visited by K.Skalbe, B.Skuyeniece, P.Dauge, E. Darzinsh and other literary and art people.

Residential building, 27, J.Poruks prospect.
Here professor Ludis Berzinsh (1870-1965) lived from 1934 to 1944. He was a well known pedagogue, historian of literature, a student of folk lore, and poet. At present there is a museum named after him.

Here Rainis and Aspasia lived in a house built by themselves. Later they were forced to emigrate to Switzerland. They were visited by K.Skalbe, B.Skuyeniece, P.Dauge, E. Darzinsh and other literary and art people.

Amatas street
leads to the sea to the so called Pine Trees of Rainis. Close to them, in a small house Amatas street, 4, Rainis used to stay for the summer between 1891 and 1895. 

ARCHITECTURAL LANDMARKS IN JAUNDUBULTI

Residential building, 58, lit. 3, Strelnieku prospect.
A two-storied house resting on horizontal planks with jugendstyle (art-nouva) features, asymmetrical construction with a turret-like part, verandah and loggia. The walls are adorned by wood-cuts presenting jugendstyle (art-nouva) ornaments.

Residential building, 45. Dubultu prospect.

Built in 1936. A compact building with an attic. Typically, the verandah located in the centre of the house, connected with a balustrade and a terrace on the first floor. This method of building has been frequently applied in later building of summer-houses. Steep roofs, vertically directed adornments, small stained glass panes gives the house an impression of national romanticism.

The house is designed in classical style - great fronton and half-circumference windows are emphasized vertically. Decoration is in a panel of the porch.

Primary School in 8, Kronvalda street.
In 1934 was built Primary School of Melluzhi (architector is Indriíis Blankenburgs, born in 1887 died in 1944). Brick stone house is plastered in a functioned style. Vertical and horizontal line is achieved by horizontal substoried frieze of cornice. The central entrance is emphasizes by balcony that is in a second storey. Today this is Pumpuru High-school.
Very well-known social people were studied at this school: President of Latvia Guntis Ulmanis and Latvian Actor Eduards Pavuls.
